what is a township committeeperson?
The Township Committeeperson is not a ceremonial role. It is a working leadership position governed by party rules and Illinois election law, requiring judgment, experience, and a practical understanding of how local elections operate.
- Representing Northfield Township on the Cook County Republican Central Committee
- Voting for State Central Committeepersons and the Cook County Republican Chairman
- Recruiting and assigning election judges for Election Day polling places
- Administering the Northfield Township Republican Caucus for township candidates in accordance with Illinois law
- Appointing, organizing, and supporting precinct captains
- Managing ballot vacancies after the primary, when necessary
- Administering delegate selection for the Illinois Republican Party State Convention
- Overseeing township endorsement and slating processes in accordance with party rul
- Ensuring compliance with Illinois election law, party bylaws, and applicable State Board of Elections requirements
- Managing the township party fundraising committee in compliance with Illinois law
- Working with Republican legal counsel regarding reported voting irregularities within the township
- Assisting candidates with ballot access, including petition strategy, filing guidance, and support during objection proceedings
- Coordinating records review and compliance support when candidates face objections
- Managing township party office operations, including lease and municipal requirements

“The Township Committeeperson is a governance role within the Republican Party. A committeeperson is responsible for organization, elections, and representation. While the township organization may engage in issue advocacy, this office is not a role for personal activism.
This office exists to ensure that the party functions effectively at the local level, complies with election law, and is prepared to support Republican candidates at every level of the ballot.
I have served as the Northfield Township Republican Committeeman for the past eight years, during what has been the most challenging political environment for Republicans in suburban Chicago. During that time, we have recruited serious candidates, provided campaign support when other township organizations could not or would not, and rebuilt a strong, reliable volunteer base.
I am seeking a third term to continue providing steady, experienced leadership in difficult times for Illinois Republicans.”
